Ruth Charles

Professional Learning (Qld State Manager)

Mother of three adult daughters and having originally trained in Queensland, Ruth Charles has been a teacher for more than thirty years in state and independent schools, across all year levels, in a wide range of subject areas and in a variety of locations in Australia, Indonesia and China.

Ruth has spent over eight years living in Perth but has recently returned to Queensland and is relishing life and work on the Sunshine Coast. Being passionate about assisting and supporting other educators in their ICT journeys, one of her aims is to facilitate these journeys so as to be as stress-free, practical and enjoyable as possible. Her excellent on-going remote support of client teachers, between regular school visits, provides a point-of-difference, enables continuous learning to occur and encourages increased teacher confidence to develop more rapidly.

An active member of the Apple Consultants’ Network, Ruth continues to upgrade her qualifications, knowledge and skill levels by attending as many ICT Conferences as possible and has presented at several of them. Amongst other teaching qualifications, ranging from music, language (Bahasa Indonesia) and ESL, she has been awarded her EPICT (Australia) Licence. The European Pedagogical ICT Licence is an in-service training course introducing a European quality standard for the continued professional development of teachers in the pedagogical integration of information, media and communication technologies (ICT) in education.

ICT is just another teaching tool, albeit a very powerful one, but seamlessly incorporating ICT into teaching and learning, in the best ways possible, pedagogically, enables and encourages on-time content delivery, guided by the Australian Curriculum, with increased student engagement, communication, collaboration and creativity. This provides a win-win situation for all.
